Shelter: Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue
Pet Description: Asa is a 7 year old Mastiff mix! This big girl weighs in around 120 pounds. She is full of personality and makes sure everyone she comes into contact with is ready to give her lots of pets! Asa takes treats very gently and likes when her new friends offer a treat. Asa loves to receive peanut butter filled Kongs and loves nothing more than giant stuffed animals to carry around the house. She is very food motivated and enjoys all kinds of puzzle toys that involve treats. Asa never lets her foster family forget when meal time is, always grunting and barking to let them know it's time to eat! She is a very smart girl who knows how to lay down and give paw. She likes going for short walks around the neighborhood, sniffing all the things she can! Asa's head has no problem reaching the countertops, so any food that isn't dog appropriate should be kept away, as she tends to do a bit of taste testing when not supervised. While Asa is potty trained, she does need several bathroom breaks throughout the day to avoid any accidents. Asa does best gated off in a room when alone instead of crated. She loves to lounge on her big orthopedic dog bed, which will go with her to her forever home! Asa is fostered with other dogs, cats, and has interacted with children who frequently visit the home. However, Asa is looking for a home where she can be the only pet with no small children. She isn't very good at sharing with the other animals and is most comfortable without their competition. She came into rescue with a painful back end. She had trouble sitting down and relaxing. Asa was diagnosed with severe arthritis in her back hips and underwent double knee surgery to correct her torn cruciate ligaments. To help manage the pain from her arthritis, Asa is on two pain medications for life. While Asa's foster home does have several flights of stairs, she would do best in a home where she did not need to use them daily. She does well with the couple stairs to go outside but does not use more than a couple steps daily.
