Pet Description: GUNNER HAS BEEN ADOPTED! Gunner is a lovely 5 year old, 80 pound, Shepherd/Husky mix was was surrendered to HART because his owner had dementia. She was placed in a nursing home, and poor Gunner found himself homeless. Gunner is very dog friendly and rides great in the car. He's extremely friendly with people, including kids, but hasn't been cat tested. Gunner is also believed to be house trained. Gunner also tested positive for Lyme, which is a tick borne disease and not contagious to other people or dogs. Gunner will have this disease for the remainder of his life and will need yearly Lyme vaccines to help keep the disease dormant. Should a flare up occur, it will be indicated by lethargy and joint pain/inflammation. If he were to have multiple flare ups, within a short period of time, it could potential affect his kidneys, which would require regular blood work checks. Lyme has become more prevalent in Kentucky and West Virginia, and we have seen an increase of it with the dogs we have pulled. However, all of those dogs have been adopted and gone on to lead long healthy lives!
