June is Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month

May 28, 2018 By My Furry Valentine

June is Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month and with it being kitten season, there are more cats and kittens in shelters and rescues in need than ever. So, what can you do to help?

Adopt

The most obvious choice to help is to visit a rescue or shelter and adopt a cat or kitten in need of a forever home.

Open Your Heart & Home – Foster

If you aren’t able to adopt right now, you can open your home as a foster. By fostering, you are able to get all of the love from the cat or kitten without the expenses as the rescues provide the food and medical needs for the fostered animal. You are also helping the animal get used to living in a home with a loving family, thus preparing them for their forever home.

Can’t adopt – there are other ways to help

  1. Use your social media pages to share this article or another article about Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat month.
  2. Donate your time, wishlist items, or money to a local rescue or shelter. Shelters are largely successful through the donated time and efforts of their volunteers, and many even offer training classes to get you properly prepared to volunteer. If you can’t volunteer on a regular basis, look for special events, like My Furry Valentine Adoption Event, which takes place once or twice a year.
  3. Give social media shout-outs to your favorite local rescues or shelters. Share posts of their adoptable cats and kittens and let others know that adoption saves lives.
